THeology and Pastor education
We have nothing like this major at Baldwin Wallace today. Our Religion major is hardly related. The studies of metaphysics, apologetics, and theology have all but disappeared from contemporary education, since the study of Christian philosophy does not fit in with the modern form of education. The Methodist and altogether Christian roots of the school are very present here. Hebrew and Greek are taught to study the oldest texts of the Old Testament and to study the Septuagint (the oldest Greek translation of the Old Testament) and the oldest Greek of the New Testament. The final trimester ended with pastoral studies, which we now only see in Seminary schools.

Heute gibt es an Baldwin Wallace kein Hauptfach wie dies. Das heutige Religion Hauptfach is kaum ähnlich.

Translation (and other) Notes:
**This course likely had to do with church history, especially Hebrew history. Alterthüm is more so objects of antiquity, so buildings, places, and physical remains of antiquity. It may also have had to do with the creationism and the location of various peoples across the earth. The objects of antiquity may have also included idols and iconography.
***Church Management is literally Churchly constitution, as in the make up of the church, so this course likely discussed what went into daily churchlife and leading a church.
****Practical or applied theology
- This was as much a theology major as preparation to become a pastor.
- Years had trimesters rather than semesters.
- Understanding God through Nature showed the intention to mix science and spiritualism, to include God within mankind's understanding of the natural world. This idea persisted since ancient times until the twentieth century. (This is somewhat speculative, as these courses appear to have been somewhat uncommon.)
- Natural History focused on biology and geology, the history of the physical earth.
- Antiquity means the ancient world (before the Middle Ages, starting with the fall of Rome in 476 AD.)
- Logic is its own mathematical study. It would have started similar to contemporary discreet mathematics, but on a far more in-depth scale. Here we see intention to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Philosophy of the Soul is the study of "the Being of the Self", similar to metaphysics. It is philosophy dealing with self-awareness, consciousness, and what makes something alive or human. It also probably involved some early study of one's individual psychology.
- Apologetics is the use of reasoning skills and writing with the intent of defending (Christian) doctrine.
- Declamation is effectively preaching in this scenario, especially strong articulation of rhetoric and doctrine in speech, part of pastoral preparation.
- This major is shorter than the others, which likely explains the added weekly oral and written presentation of what has been thus far learned.
